The Research in Industrial Projects for Students (RIPS) Program at UCLA's Institute for Pure & Applied Mathematics provides an opportunity for talented undergraduate students to work in teams on real-world research projects sponsored by industry. For more information and to apply, visit: http://www.ipam.ucla.edu/rips Working in teams of 4 under the guidance of an academic mentor and industry sponsor, students spend the summer researching a real-world industrial problem, and present their results at the end of the program. RIPS projects involve serious math and computing. Past projects include space mission design, crime modeling, machine learning, weather forecasting, digital image blending, quantum computing, and finance - for sponsors like Disney, Google, Twitter, HRL, Symantec, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Aerospace Corporation. RIPS students come from many different academic fields, but all share a strong background and interest in mathematics. Undergraduate students, including current seniors, are eligible to apply.
